I’ve had my Denise needle set for about a year and use them frequently, as knitting is my line of business. I was concerned about buying a plastic set, as I usually prefer wood or bamboo and was worried about the quality of a plastic set, but my concerns were unnecessary. The needles are quite sturdy (although slightly less so for the size 5’s) and I see them holding up well for years to come. The cable is thick (about the size of the 5 needles) but flexible, and can easily be used for magic loop knitting. The trade-off between plastic and metal needles is the ease of sliding the stitches, but I don’t find it difficult or bothersome with these (although some fibers do catch on the join more often than others; ie, I find that cotton slides more easily than acrylic–which I can’t stand to use regardless– and some wools slide more easily than others; it’s really the same story for any type of needles, though). I actually find myself knitting at a faster pace with these than with my metal needles, since the plastic is a little more “grippy” but still smooth (similar to wood) and hence I drop less stitches with these. I also find the large cable a little more comfortable on my hands than circulars with smaller cables (I have very small hands, but I imagine it would be true for people with larger hands, too). Another advantage this set has over others I’ve seen is that the case keeps the set so well-organized. Each slot is labeled with the needle size (both US and traditional sizes), and everything stays in place nicely even if the case is jostled. The other sets of seen lack in this area, even the much more expensive sets.
It would be convenient if the case included spaces to store stitch markers and a tapestry needle, etc. but I just store my stitch markers on the pointy end of one of my less-used (size 11) needles and they stay in place nicely. I keep my tapestry needle underneath the other size 11 needle, and it stays put, too. A separate place for them would be nice, though. However, my only true complaint is that occasionally when I grip the working needle too tightly, it comes unlocked from the cable and I drop several stitches. I’m quick at picking them back up so it’s not a huge deal, but it is a little bit of an inconvenience. I’m not sure how this could be resolved (besides just loosening my grip), and I know it’s a common problem with the other interchangeable sets I’ve seen, too, but it’s worth being aware of.
Overall, I highly recommend this set. The price can’t be beat, especially for the quality of the set.
How do I adjust a knitting pattern for different yarn and needles?
I would like to make this hat for my husband. http://marniemaclean.com/patterns/carlsbad/index.htmlThe circular needles knitting hat pattern calls for US#1 knitting needles and fine gauge cotton yarn. If I want to use size 7 or 8 circular needles (that's what I have) and use this great light weight yarn I already have, how do I adjust the number of stitches to cast on.Thanks for any help you can provide!

The set of needles are perfect. They are not as smooth as the more expensive needles but I found that they do get better with use. Perhaps a little fine, fine, fine steel wool brushing is all that is needed. I love having the variety of sizes since I do not have a shop nearby to meet my knitting needs. Order came very quickly as well! Happy with purchase. Juanita
I bought these needles before starting my second knitting project, when it became clear that most of what I wanted to do involved knitting in the round. I also bought the 25″ set from the same manufacturer so I’d always have two of the same size. It was a fantastic deal given that I wasn’t sure how much I wanted to invest in my new hobby.
Well, fast forward a few months, and I’m ready to buy a more expensive set.
Yesterday, one row left on my first ever sweater, the plastic cord broke on one of the needles. Luckily I noticed that it was about to break, and was able to start transferring stitches before it actually broke all the way. I guess — and it makes sense if you look at them — that the stress of carrying 200+ stitches for a sweater-worth of rows was more stress than these poor little needles can take.
Prior to breaking, I was reasonably happy with the needles for the price. The join between the plastic cable and the needle isn’t perfectly smooth and at tighter gauges the stitches snag enough that I spend a lot of energy worrying about damage to the yarn. At looser gauges it doesn’t seem like that big a deal.
Bottom line, I recommend these if you’re knitting enough that you’ll need more than one or two circular needles before you’ll know whether or not you’re serious enough about the hobby to invest in a more durable and higher quality set. I don’t recommend tackling a large scale project on them unless you don’t mind losing a bunch of stitches.
These saved me SO much money! My friend kept telling me I needed to get Addi needles which are like $12 EACH, but I wanted to try these first. These work wonderfully. The joint between the plastic and the bamboo is not a problem at all (and I knit a little on the tight side!). Maybe with size 1 or 2 it would be more of an issue, but I haven’t used those sizes yet. I don’t knit anything very substantial or impressive, but I make hats, booties, scarves, and gloves and these needles worked perfectly. Save yourself money and get these!
Great needles, great value. Tip for storage – a CD case with plastic pockets!
This makes it easier and has all my knitting needles in one place easy instrution on how to use them
I just bought these and I’m very pleased with them already. I was trying to find wood or bamboo interchangeable circulars, but thought I’d try these mainly based on price and (mostly) good reviews. The Denise set gives many options of needle size and cable length, and the connection is easy to make, (though as it’s plastic, it might wear with time/use). I like how flexible the cables are, and I also like that the cables are a bit thicker than the Addi Turbo cables. They might not hold up quite as well as metal over long use, but at about 1/3 the price of the Addi set, I could buy another whole set and still come out ahead.
My favorite part is that the plastic needles, while not being rough at all, seem to have a little bit more “grabby” surface to them (like the wood or bamboo I was looking for), making it easier for me to keep my very light-weight knitting project ON the needles! The metal ones are so heavy and slippery that they kept slipping out of the stitches, making for laborious re-mounting time. I know lots of people like the SPEEEEDY factor of the metal needles, and ultimately these are all matters of preference, but for me it made knitting more frustrating than fun.
These are lovely. Knitting a gauge sample is a breeze! The plastic needles are warm and quiet, the join is smooth, and the cable is soft and pliable. I very much like these needles.
I have had my set for a year and at first I loved them, but that was before I started knitting on the smaller needles. If you are using anything above a 7 these work fantastically. You can make the cord quite short or really long. The plastic is a good balance between slick and not so the yarn moves over nicely but not sliding everywhere like on some metal needles. However, like I said if you want to knit on needles 6 and below, buy those elsewhere. It doesn’t work at all because the needles are almost the same thickness as the cord and does not really slide well on it taking twice as long to finish a project then it would on a good set of regular circular needles.
This is a very nice case for a variety of needle sizes. It fits everything from super-long to very short needles, and has space for many sets of needles. The only drawback is that it only has two pockets inside for accessories, one of which is rather small (about 2×3 inches). Other than this small complaint, I am very happy with this knitting case.
As with any product offered by an Amazon.com partner company, this case is exactly as described and pictured on the website. Nice quality, quick delivery, another home run by Amazon.com!
A little pricy for what you get, but it’s attractive and does hold your needles. It definately serves a purpose. I have a few of these now, just can’t get over how much these things cost as there is very little put into the production of them. IMHO.
I am very pleased with these needles and the delivery was fast and prompt. Also the price was a bit lower than I had seen on other sites.
The price was right for these knitting needles. The joins do not snag yarn and they work well for addi style sock knitting.
The plastic connecting the two needles is amazingly flexible. I’m not fighting the coil in the middle as i have with other circular needles. Bamboo has the warm smooth feel that makes knitting nearly effortless. The price was also unbelievable – less than $2 per set.
I like it a lot, just be careful using the little ones because they break so easy. Other than that the rest of them are great.
